A lot of my favorite trends this summer will happily be joining us in fall. While styling all of my clients at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, I kept thinking, “Oh, I’ll add this to my wardrobe too,” or “Dang, this piece is great, I need to weave this into all my client’s update.”
Pants and jeans are finding room in the leg. In other words, bootleg and flares are new options to add to our already saturated closet of skinny jeans. I’m loving loving loving a culotte cut chino or wide legged trouser that can be worn with a sandal now and a bootie for colder weather. Wide legs are often cut short to reveal your ankle which is a very subtly sexy part of your body. This not only shows more skin, it’s also showing off your shoes!! If your wider pant leg of choice reaches past the top of your foot, pair them with a chunky platform or a pointy boot. This will extend the leg and will make you look like a tall drink of water.
Holy cow, white boots and shoes. I mean, they are on fire! Wear them like you’re wearing black. It’s hard at first, I know first hand, then you will get the hang of it. Seriously it’s the easiest way to update any look!
High waist britches of any style are creating the long legged illusion I’ve so missed the last 10 years. Eight-inch, nine-inch, and ten-inch inseams are rocking the mall runways, boardwalks and classroom hallways. When you pair a high waisted jean with a mid-length or cropped top it creates an impression that you possess thin long legs — which you may or may not actually possess. Looking taller is a good thing. For fall, tuck in a sweater or a chunky top for the same effect.
