Throughout the process of writing this book, I relied heavily on positive self-talk. I never wavered in the belief that I must love even when the other doesn’t love me back. On our wedding day, we promised that we would love through good times and bad. Not that we will love only under the one condition that they will love us back. This unwavering love was not only for my ex-husband’s sake, but also for the sake of our children. I wanted to be a good example for them, to show them what love really means.
By the end of my journal, I realized that my message is to get to know yourself. Be your best friend. Study yourself as though you’re in college again taking “Catherine 101.” It will save you like it saved me.
I wrote The Beginning of a Real Relationship with Myself because it was my mission to be better and stick to what was right. Forgive: yourself and everyone. I believe that for the most part, everyone is trying to do, and be, their best. I have made mistakes and have forgiven myself. People have “done me wrong” and I have forgiven them. Forgiveness does not mean that you’re absolved of responsibility.
